Voicereel Script Writing

Need a script for your upcoming voice reel? Been asked to provide your own material but don't know where to start? I've got you.

Making a voice reel when you're starting out is one of the most daunting tasks for a voice actor. You need to make a reel that showcases your strengths as an artist, sells your brand, and generally be the clearest representation of what YOU are. And that starts with the script.

A lot of voice reel makers will make you bespoke scripts, but some will either pull from a bank of potentially already-used scripts, or make you source your own. In these latter cases, you run the risk of either retreading something that someone's already heard, or succumbing to that paralysing self-analysis that us artists all have, and not finding the material at all.

I want to help you with that task - to work with you to find the scripts that will show you off at your very best!

The Process

So, you've booked in, or are about to book in, for a voice reel session that requires you to have your own material, or you want to bring in some extra options - this is how we'll work together:

1

Consultation

We set up for a meeting - either Zoom or in-person (location dependent - I'm based in London) where we go over who you are, and what scripts you want from the session. I find out what makes you tick, what you're passionate about, and start building up an idea of what would work for your voice.

On a practical note, we decide on what scripts I'll actually write, how long they'll be, and how many - this could be commercial, video game, animation - whatever you want, I'm happy to adapt.

2

First Draft

After the chat, I go away, and WRITE. On a shared Google Doc, I create the baseline scripts, based off our chat.

I'll try to go into as much detail as possible, and leave various notes on what my aims for the script are - how it showcases you, and any performance notes that may be useful. Of course, you can take or leave these - it's your reel after all!

During our discussion we'll have settled on a timeframe for the first draft, and I'll aim to have the completed first drafts by that time - current turnaround is about a week.

3

Revision

You can look at the scripts, and then, we revise! If there's anything you're not vibing with, we can have another chat, find out what's working, and what isn't, and then I can rework the bits that need reworking.

I'm pretty flexible with my time, so I'm happy to change things as much as you want - within reason. There's no point in reworking something to within an inch of its life.
